At end of manual install of SQL, it fails with error "The service did not respond in a timely fashion", Webroot Antivirus blocking SQL

Potential Symptoms

  • SQL errors at first install of Venus 1500.
  • Error updating the database, SQL Server 2008 error: 26.
  • Unknown error - A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found.
  • Error Code: 0x84BB0001.
  • Installing SQL 2008 manually and as it finished, the install failed and showed error:
    • Windows could not start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) service on Local Computer. The Service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

Cause

  • Webroot is blocking the database engine from starting.

Resolution

  1. Back up database if possible.
  2. Uninstall Webroot from the computer.
  3. Uninstall SQL and all its sub parts from the computer.
  4. Uninstall Venus from computer.
  5. If SQL was corrupted as it probably was remove Daktronics folders and Microsoft SQL folders from Programs (x86) folder.
  6. RESTART the computer after doing all uninstalls.
  7. Manually install Microsoft SQL 2008 referencing: How to Install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Manually for Venus 1500 v4 or Vanguard v4, DD2474426. (If installation continues to fail you will need to reinstall have customers IT look at it or have them reinstall Windows.)
  8. Install Venus 1500 v4.
