Show Control: Can I make content on my Display Studio laptop when disconnected from the Daktronics system?

Topic

Can I make content on my Display Studio laptop when disconnected from the Daktronics system?

Environment

Product Family: Software and Controller
Product: DMP-8000 / DMP-8301
Components: DVNMC
Control System: Show Control (SCS)/Display Studio

Steps

Yes, it is possible to create content from Content Studio when disconnected from the router that the DMP is connected to.  However, content will need to be saved to a backup location and transferred back to DMP when the system is reconnected.

In order to get content created, saved, and buttons created when disconnected from the DMP/VNet, perform the following steps:

  1. Create the content in Content Studio.
  2. Create a specific folder on the Windows Desktop or Documents folder for saving content created with Content Studio.
    1. Alternatively, you can save content to a thumb drive and plug the thumb drive into the VNet to transfer files.
  3. When saving your content in Content Studio, save to the newly created folder on the Desktop or Documents or thumb drive.
  4. In order to create buttons, you must be connected to the VNet network.
  5. To create buttons, begin by transferring the previously made Content Studio to the Content folder on DMP.
    1. Open up Computer/My Computer.
    2. Double-click on the mapped network drive (usually drive letter "Z:" but could be any letter).
    3. Transfer/copy your content from the folder on the Show Control computer to a folder(s) desired within the Content folder on the VNet.
  6. Once content is transferred to the DMP, create the Display Studio/SCS buttons as normal, linking the buttons to the messages stored on the VNet.

Note: It is NOT possible to create Display Studio buttons when disconnected from the system.
