Resolution

Required resources
  • Cellular or radio network technician with test equipment at the display.
  • Sign technician or other individual at the display with the ability to power it off and on and potentially access the display itself to power off individual components.
Troubleshooting procedure
  1. Gather the following information to provide Daktronics while the display is running.
    • What wireless company and wireless band is being interfered with?
    • How much interference is being seen?
    • What is an acceptable level of interference?
    • Any logs from cell networks showing the interference.
    • Contact information for cell network technician working on the issue.
  2. Power down the display and repeat the interference measurements.
    • If it is found that interference is not present while the display is off.
      1. Verify that no other equipment is sharing the same electrical circuit as the Daktronics display that would also be getting shut off when the display is powered down.  An example of this could be a fluorescent backlit logo display on the same structure as a gas price sign or message center.
        • If additional equipment is found to be running with the display, separate them such that they can be powered off independently for testing and repeat interference measurements to determine the source of interference.
      2. Power off the communication equipment for the display while leaving the display running and repeat the interference measurements.
      3. Contact Daktronics with the testing results.
    • If it is found that interference is still present while the display is off, interference is not coming from the display and the cellular network technician will need to continue to troubleshoot the area to find the source.
