Ethernet Bridge Radio, No communication to Display, Water is Present in Radio Enclosure

Potential Symptoms

Note: Symptoms may vary as water intrusion can effect the radio in different ways.

  • No communication to the display.
  • Issue could be with the Server, Client, or both.
  • May be able to ping Server and see it in EBR Diagnostics, but unable to ping or see the Client.
  • May or may not have lights lit in Ethernet Bridge Radio.
  • Moisture/condensation or Water present in Radio Enclosure window.
  • Ice may be present if water got inside and froze.
  • Radio may be mounted horizontally with the cover on top.
    • Radio may have fallen or is hanging due to poor mounting.
  • Water is present in client radio causing sign not to boot while radio is connected.

  • Component: Ethernet Bridge Radios (EBR) 900xTR with see through window on the lid
  • Control System: Venus 1500 v3 or v4, Venus Control Suite (VCS)

Cause

Note: Opening or tampering with the radio box is not advised and may affect the seal.

  • Enclosure may not be properly sealed and there is water damage to the radio.

Resolution

  • Replace Ethernet Bridge Radio pair.
    • When installing replacement radios ensure that the radio is mounted vertically with the antenna on top.
    • If the server radio is mounted below where the Ethernet cable enters the building or client radio is mounted below where the Ethernet cable connects to the Quick Connect (QC) on the sign, consider adding a water drip loop in the cable to prevent water wicking into the enclosure.
