Galaxy display with serial communication is unable to connect to the display, Computer COM port is locked up
Potential Symptoms
- Unable to communicate to the display.
- TX light is not flashing on the signal converter when trying to communicate.
- In Venus 1500 v3, the progress window doesn't pop up when getting status or flashes really quick.
- In Venus 1500 v4, will either see a No Reply alert or the progress window hangs and never completes.
- In DakFirmInstaller, there will be an error that the com port is busy.
Environment
- Product: Galaxy, Serial Communication
- Component: DB9 Serial Port, DB25 Serial Port
- Control System: Venus 1500 V3 or V4
Cause
- Computer COM port is locked up.
Resolution
- Disable and enable associated COM port in device manager or restart the computer.
- NOTE: Some older computers will need a cold boot to clear the Com port.
- If issue does not clear and hardware permits, add a USB to serial adapter.
- NOTE: MOXA is the recommended cable to use on any OS, Windows 7 and up. If you do not have a MOXA, see: "USB to serial adapter (non-Moxa), Unable to publish messages to display on Windows 7 or 8 OS, Reseating adaptor temporarily fixes issue, DD2313704"
