Error ret val 1 when installing Vanguard version 3 software

Potential Symptoms

  • After installing Vanguard V3 the error "Retval error code 1" pops up when trying to sign in.

Cause

  • Unknown

Resolution

  1. No resolution available.
  2. V3 is not supported on Windows 7 or current Microsoft operating systems.
  3. Upgrade to Vanguard Version 4 software.

Work Around

  1. You could try installing V3 and say yes when prompted to install .net
  2. If not working, you could try installing again and say no to the .net prompt this time.
  3. You could try to do the install with .net and then without to see if will work.
