"Input String was not in correct format" error connecting to display, incompatible PC date format.

Potential Symptoms

  • Error "Input String was not in correct format", or "The format of the input string is incorrect" in the alerts, but do not get the error on another computer.
    • Other variations of the alert in French: "le format de la chaîne d'entrée est incorrect", "Le format de la d'entree est incorrect" - The format of the entry is incorrect.
  • Alert may appear right away when trying to get status of the display, or only when publishing.
  • Clearing the display memory may cause error to disappear until sending messages again.

Environment

  • Product Family: Software

  • Control System: Venus 1500 V4

Cause

  • Regional date settings on the computer are not at a value that the controller can process.

Resolution

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel.
  2. Select Region and Language.
  3. On the Formats tab, change the Short date to be MM/dd/yyyy or M/d/yyyy. edit1006497_12-21-2017 4-44-27 PM.jpg

  4. Log into the controller using M2Config.  Go to Display->Clock and confirm that the time zone and clock source are set correctly.

  5. Re-start Venus 1500 and then Re-Publish to the display.
