Cannot load Counter Name data, .NET Framework 4.0 Performance Counter registry issue

Potential Symptoms

  • When launching Venus receive following error:
    • Daktronics Nucleus service could not be started.
  • When checking the Nucleus Service Error Log have the following:
    • Exception: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Daktronics.Nucleus.Operations.ScriptManager' threw an exception. ---> System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot load Counter Name data because an invalid index '' was read from the registry
  • Can also receive the following error
    • Title: Open Service Daktronics.Nucleus.UserManagementService
      Message: The type initializer for 'Daktronics.Nucleus.Operations.ScriptManager' threw an exception

Cause

  • There is a Performance Counter registry issue with the .Net Framework.

Resolution

  1. Run a full repair on .Net Framework 4.0 Client.
  2. Run repair on Venus.
  3. Open cmd as Administrator (right click open as administrator).
  4. Execute the following command from the command prompt:
    1. cd\ to get to C:> prompt.
    2. lodctr /R
    3. (You can copy and paste this into command prompt).
  5. Reboot the computer, and launch Venus 1500 v4.
