Digit and Price Displays: LED digits uniformly dim, Getting dimmer over time, Natural LED degradation

Potential Symptoms

  • Digits of display are dim.
  • Decimal is dim.
  • Replacing driver only makes decimal bright.
  • Adjusting brightness setting to max on handheld (only applicable on DM-100 and RC-100/FLR-500) still isn't bright enough.
  • Green digits are dimmer than red.
  • LED's look low quality, or are hard to read.

  • Product: Fuelight or DataMaster, FL or DF digit product, FL-2000, FL-2100, FL-2109, FL-2300, FL-4000, DF-2000, DF-2009, DF-2100, DF-2109, DF-2300, DF-4000, FL-3000
  • Component: LED digits or digit segments, pixels, indicators. Displays are 5-10 years old
  • Control System:

Cause

  • Natural LED degradation.
    • LEDs will naturally get dimmer over time.

Resolution

  • Replace part with dim LEDs (digit/s or driver).

For Temporary Operation

  • Attempt to clean the face of the display with a mild water/soap mixture.
    • Replace displays with newer model.
