FL-3000/FL-4500, Gas Price Display will not address or change prices, line to line cable is running close to Fluorescent or LED lighting

Potential Symptoms

  • Unable to communicate to all drivers. (First driver always works/responds)
  • Drivers are not addressable.  Driver works if placed in another spot but will not change prices if in the last position on signal chain
  • Issue remains the same even when swapping drivers around the system.
  • May be able to get prices to change on all products but it would change very slowly.
  • Able to get all prices into addressing mode but some prices would not adjust to anything from the default L01.

Environment

  • Fuelight
  • FL-3000, FL-4500
  • Gas Price or Petroleum Price Display, FL digit product

Cause

  • Fluorescent lights are inducing noise on the line to line cabling.

Resolution

Option 1

  1. Power down all displays by turning off the breaker.
  2. Route line to line cabling at least 6 inches or more if possible from any fluorescent lighting or devices that may induce noise onto the signal cabling.  (Power cables, Ballast, etc...)
  3. Restore power to all displays by turning the breaker back on.
  4. Wait 1 minute for the signs to boot back up and initialize.
  5. Line map all drivers.
  6. Send prices out to display.

Option 2 (would be used if there is not a good way to reroute the cabling away from noise inducing devices)

  • Replace the non-shielded line to line cabling with shielded line to line cabling.  Contact Daktronics Technical support for assistance.

Work Around

  • Turn the fluorescent lighting off in the sign structure and make necessary changes.
