Venus 1500: Unable to delete content from Venus 1500 v4 or Content Studio; xp_cmdshell feature is disabled

Potential Symptoms

  • When deleting a presentation in Venus 1500 get error: The presentation can not be deleted. The file is currently in use.

  • When deleting a presentation in Content Studio Open or Save window, receive error:
    • Data Access error: SQL Server blocked access to procedure 'sys.xp_cmdshell' of component 'xp_cmdshell' because this component is turned of as part of the security configuration for this server. A system administrator can enable the use of 'xp_cmdshell' by using sp_configure. For more information about enabling 'xp_cmdshell', see "Surface Area Configuration" in SQL Server Books Online. The statement has been terminated.

  • When opening a file in Content Studio, receiving error:
    • "Failed to update Nucleus" Data Access error: SQL Server blocked access to procedure 'sys.xp_cmdshell' of component 'xp_cmdshell' because this component is turned of as part of the security configuration for this server. A system administrator can enable the use of 'xp_cmdshell' by using sp_configure. For more information about enabling 'xp_cmdshell', see "Surface Area Configuration" in SQL Server Books Online.   • When "Save As" is executed on a file in Content Studio

  2. Try and delete presentations again in Venus 1500 Content tab or Content Studio.
