AF-3500 Series, (M3 - GNet 2.3.1 firmware), Both sides of a primary mirror display setup are dim all day, Reboot and will be bright for a few seconds
Potential Symptoms
- Both sides of a primary mirror display setup are dim all day even though the light sensor is reading above 400.
- When Re-booting the display, the boot sequence will be bright.
- Continue to be bright after boot-up for about 15 seconds then will dim down to minimum brightness.
- Display is dim during the daytime.
Environment
- AF-3500, AF-3550
- M3 Controller (GNet Firmware DD1523458.EXE version 2.3.1 firmware)
- Primary Mirror (2V)
- M2Config utility software
Cause
- The MLC is sending false data to the controller which is causing a thermal protection to initiate.
Resolution
- Update firmware to DD1523458 version 2.4.0 or newer from Dakfiles.daktronics.com. This update will take 3-5 minutes to complete once uploaded. It is critical not to power cycle during this time.
- Push the set brightness button under tools tab in M2config.
Work Around
Use M2Config to adjust display height and width on the controller. Follow How to change the height and width of a Galaxy controller using M2Config?, DD2349798.- Set the display Height and Width to a smaller matrix. (may have to go extremely smaller)
- Select "Set Configuration" (the blue down arrow). This will reset the display.
- Wait 30 seconds for the display to boot up and again connect to the display with M2Config.
- Set the display Height and Width to correct matrix.
- Select "Set Configuration" (the blue down arrow).
- Display will boot up and the dimming issue will be resolved.
