When running Companion Finder receive a message 'Operating System must be updated to Windows XP SP3 or newer.'

Potential Symptoms

  • When running Companion Finder receive the following message under Needs Improvement:
    • Operating System must be updated to Windows XP SP3 or newer.
    • Operating System must be updated to Windows XP 64bit SP2 or newer.

Environment

  • Venus 1500 v4
  • Windows XP S
  • Companion Finder

Cause

  • The computer that is trying to install Venus 1500 v4 on is a Windows XP Operating system that needs have Windows Updates Applied.

Resolution

It is required to have Windows XP with SP3 or Windows XP 64bit SP2  installed to install Venus 1500. Please follow the instructions below on how to update your Windows.

  1. Under Needs Improvement, select the link Check for Windows Updates.

    • Internet is required to run Windows Updates.
  2. Allow Windows Update to complete before proceeding with Venus 1500 v4 Install.

Manually update Windows XP

  1. Launch Windows Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools and choose Windows Updates or go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
  3. You may be prompted to install ActiveX and/or Microsoft Update, install both if prompted.
  4. Click Express (Recommended).
  5. Once listed updates are shown, click Install Updates.
    • You may have to restart your computer for updates to apply.
    • You may need to repeat the update steps several times as some updates cannot be downloaded and installed until certain ones, so it is important to repeat the steps until all updates are applied.
  6. Once updates and computer restart is complete, try Installing Venus 1500 v4 software again.
