Module(s) randomly going blank or flickering

Potential Symptoms

  • Module(s) randomly blanking or flickering.  (May only happen when module is touched or at a time of high vibrations.)

  • Module Flickering or shows incorrect display data when tapped, brushed against, or when it rains.
  • Modules Blank until power cycled.
  • Modules Blank then come back on.
  • Display has a checkerboard effect

Environment

  • Billboard, GalaxyPro, Video
  • DB-4200, DB-4202, DVX, DVN, GP4

Cause

  • A static charge is causing the module to stop functioning correctly resulting in visual issues on the display.

Resolution

  • Update module firmware to the latest release.  Fix for this issue is in display firmware release package 1.3.113 or higher.  Contact Daktronics technical support for assistance on this update.

NOTE: If a module is replaced in the display from the spare parts box the firmware will need to be double checked to make sure that they are all the same rev, and that the newly installed module firmware is up to date with the rest of the display. If this is not done and the newly replaced module has older firmware on it the blanking and/or flickering issue may become present again.

Workaround

  • Power cycle the module or display.
