Unable to connect to sign; Control computer IP same as sign

Potential Symptoms

  • Unable to connect to the display using Venus 1500 or M2config.
  • Able to ping the IP address of the display even when the display is powered off.

Environment

  • Product Family: Message Displays
  • Product: Galaxy, GalaxyPro, Electronic Message Center (EMC), Marquee, Electronic Message Board (EMB)
  • Component: Computer or Network adapter IP addressing, Direct Ethernet Connection (no network, modem, or router involved), Static IP set on display, may have USB to Ethernet adapter
  • Control System: Venus 1500 v3 or v4

Cause

  • IP address on computer or network adapter is set to the same IP address as the display (causing a duplicate IP).

Resolution

  1. Change IP address on PC to a similar IP address and try connecting.
  2. Example: 
    • Display:
      • IP: 192.168.1.10
      • SM: 255.255.255.0
      • GW: 192.168.1.1
    • USB Adapter:
      • IP: 192.168.1.9
      • SM: 255.255.255.0
  2. If still unable to connect, power cycle the display.
  3. If still unable to connect, clear arp cached on the connecting computer.
    1. Run a CMD prompt window as administrator.
    2. Type in netsh interface ip delete arpcache.
    3. If there is a router (i.e. display is on the network), one may need to power cycle the router to help flush arp cache on the router.
  4. If still unable to connect, power cycle the display once more.
