S1500, Gaining Access to 1.5 Lamp Bank

Topic

How to gain access to 1.5 lamp bank in an S1500 Series display?

Environment

  • S1500
  • 1.5" lamp bank

Steps

  1. Will need a Phillips screwdriver, preferably with a long (18") shaft; and a needle-nose pliers can help.
  2. Remove two 8x8 lens/reflector/louver assemblies to get to the 8x16 lamp bank.  Each 8x8 lens assembly is held in place by two ¼-turn fasteners; and the access holes to each of these are behind a lens, so those will have to be removed first (do not need a tool to remove the lens, but the pliers can help).
  3. Remove the lens from row 4, column 1 and 8 of each 8x8 lens assembly.
  4. Insert the shaft of the screwdriver into the access hole, and "feel" for it to seat into the ¼-turn fastener; turn the fastener counter-clockwise a ¼ turn.
  5. Remove each 8x8 louver individually; the 8x16 lamp bank will be left hanging on pegs; grasp it and pull it forward enough to reach behind it, unplug it and remove.
  6. Reverse the steps to install the replacement lamp bank.
  7. Refer to the manual for drawings and more details. There are at least 3 different manuals, depending on the overall display construction, but all have similar instructions on lamp bank removal in Section 4:
  • MANUAL; INSTALL-MAINT; 1.5 in. LENS-BOTTOM VENT; 120 and 208V, ED-9958.
  • MANUAL; INSTALL-MAINT; 1.5 in. LENS OD INCAND REAR VENT; 10 in. C, ED-9933
  • MANUAL; INSTALL-MAINT; 1.5 in. OD INCAND; V1000 11 and 13V 1500 S
