When trying to manually start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) receive an error 1814.
Potential Symptoms
- When trying to install Venus 1500 v4.18.1, receive the following error:
- A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to the SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified).
- When going to manually start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS), receive the following error:
- Windows could not start the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) on Local Computer. Fore more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code 1814.
- When reviewing the Windows Event Viewer, you find the following error:
- FileMgr::StartLogFiles: Operating System Error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.) occurred while creating or opening file 'e:\sql10_main_t\sql\mkmastr\databases\objfre\i386\MSDBLog.ldf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation.
Environment
- Venus 1500 v4.18
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008
- Windows 7 or 8
Cause
- Either the SQL Server (NUCLEUS) cannot start on Local and needs to be set to Network or the User.config file became corrupted in the Windows Operating System.
Resolution
Step 1: Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
- Go to Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
- Browse and locate Microsoft SQL Server 2008, select and click Remove or Uninstall.
- Click Remove.
- After scan has completed, click Ok.
- In the drop-down menu for Instance to remove features from:, select NUCLEUS, and click Next.
- In the Features Panel, place a check next to Database Engine Service under Nucleus, and click Next.
- Allow scan to complete, click Next.
- Click Remove.
- After uninstall is successful, click Next and Close.
Step 2: Manually install the SQL Server 2008 by following DD2474426 and set to run on Network rather then Local.
- During the manual install process of the SQL Server 2008, for Instruction #12, instead of choosing NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM choose NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK.
- Continue through the remaining install process as normal.
- Go to Windows Start Menu.
- Go to the following location:
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[USER_NAME]\Local Settings\Application Data\Application Name\Microsoft_Corporation\LandingPage.exe_StrongName_ryspccglaxmt4nhllj5z3thycltsvyyx\10.0.0.0
- Windows Vista, 7 or 8: C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Local\Microsoft_Corporation\LandingPage.exe_StrongName_ryspccglaxmt4nhllj5z3thycltsvyyx\10.0.0.0
- Right-click on the user.config, select Rename.
- Give it a different name such as: user.config.bak
