Receiving error 'Venus 1500 v4 has encountered a problem and needs to close' when launching and shows error 'OpenClipboard Failed' in Venus 1500 logs

Potential Symptoms

  • When launching Venus 1500 v4 receive an error:
    •  Venus 1500 v4 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
  • There is an error in the Venus 1500.log that is found in C:\ProgramData\Daktronics\Venus1500v4 or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Daktronics\Venus1500v4
    • OpenClipboard Failed (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800401D0 (CLIPBRD_E_CANT_OPEN))

Environment

  • Venus 1500 v4
  • Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8

Cause

Venus 1500 v4 and other programs (Microsoft Office, Notepad, etc.) that access the Clipboard are not able to access. Venus 1500 v4 captures an error in the error log, while other programs if you use the CUT, COPY or PASTE feature in a program, they will not perform the task.

Resolution

  1. Restart the Computer.
    • If the issue is still occurring after restart, User will need to contact their IT Department or a Computer Technician to resolve the issue.
