USB to Serial adapters driver will not install on Windows OS computer.

Potential Symptoms

  • No communication to the display.
  • Windows does not does not install the driver automatically.
  • Device Manager shows Yellow Exclamation next to Com Port.

Cause

  • The USB to Serial adapter may not be compatible with the Windows Operating System.

Resolution

  • Switch to a USB to Serial adapter that has Windows support for the Operating System of the computer.

For Temporary Operation

  • Check manufacturers website to confirm adapters compatibility. If available download correct driver.
  • Desktop you could possibly install a serial card (most likely a PCIE serial card with Windows 8 support).
