DMP-8000: How do I edit zones in a configurable system
Topic
- How do I edit/remove/add DMP-8000 (VNet) zones when using a layout file?
Environment
- Product: DMP-8000
- Components:
- Control System: Configurable systems using DMP-8000 players
Note: Zoning is not supported in standard, non-configurable systems. If you are unsure of the type of your system, please contact Daktronics.
These steps are for DMP version 7.19 or earlier. Newer systems use the HTML web user interface for zoning.
Steps
When a display needs to be divided into sub parts it is recommended to set up zones. Users can create independently controlled sections that can display any combination of statistics, advertisements, video, or any other important information. When configured, control systems, such as Show Control, can send a command to the DMP-8000 to play content files to a specific zone, rather than the display as a whole.
- On the DMP-8000 computer, browse to the content folder (C:\ProgramData\Daktronics\VNET4\Content for Windows 7, C:\Program Files\All Users\Application Data\Daktronics\VNET4\Content for Windows XP)
- Any file with .layout extension may be used to define zones in the VNet Software.
NOTE: .layout file may be edited with any word processing software, notepad is recommended. - Identify the name and size of each zone. You can also use relative sizes or percentage sizes to configure the zone sizes.
-
Enter the x and y values to determine the placement of the zones on the display. x=0 and y=0 in the top left corner of display.
NOTE: Width, Height, X or Y can be define with pixels (px) as above or as a percentage (%) as in example zone 3. Not encouraged to mix usage on a single zone. -
To ensure that the layout is useable through Show Control, it must first be playing in the Control Panel of the DMP-8000. We can ensure that this is constantly playing in the Control Panel by triggering the .layout file through a primary.vmpl For help setting layout files to play by default when player starts up, please see How to change the default file VNet plays at startup, DD2555403
