Application has generated an exception that could not be handled

Potential Symptoms

  • When opening the Venus 1500 v4 software after installing, get the following error:
    • " Application has generated an exception that could not be handled
      Process ID=0x770(1904), thread ID=0x92c (2348)"
  • No errors given in Event viewer.
  • Daktronics folder missing in Application Data.
  • Running a repair on Venus software has no effect.

Environment

  • Venus 1500 v4.17 (installing from download full version file)
  • Windows XP Service Pack 3
  • Windows Update has not been run recently

Cause

  • Suspect an issue with the .NET 3.5 Framework.

Resolution

Option 1: Run a repair on the Microsoft .NET 3.5 Framework by following DD2078587.
Option 2: If no resolution, run Windows Updates and verify all critical updates have been installed (may have to run this several times with system restarts between installations of updates)
