Receive error 'An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found' when trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005

Potential Symptoms

  • Receive error 'An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found' when trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Or the installer will crash at the Native Client Install and place a RED X.
  • Or the installer will crash with an Encryption error when setting up the SQL Server Database Services.
  • May receive one of the other possible errors:
    • Error 1:
      Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
      An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli_x64.ms'i or 'sqlncli.msi'.
    • Error 2:
      Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Setup
      Installation of Microsoft SQL Server Native Client failed because a higher version already exists on the machine. To proceed, Uninstall the higher version and then run the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client Setup again.
    • Error 3:
      Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
      SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Encryption not supported on the client. Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "Hot to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.

Cause

  • The Native Client installation is configured incorrectly or corrupted. This only effects Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Installs.

Resolution

Step 1: Uninstall or Confirm if Microsoft SQL Server Native Client is installed.
  1. Go Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Browse and locate the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client.
    • If it is installed, select it and click Uninstall or Remove.
Step 2: Manually install the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client.
  1. Locate the download here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/default.aspx
  2. Click on Download next to the Native Client download depending on the type of Operating System Bit.
    • 32 Bit - sqlncli.msi
    • 64 Bit - sqlncli_x64.msi
  3. Save or Run the Setup.
  4. Run the Native Client setup and follow through the install wizard.
Step 3: Install Venus 1500 v4 Software.
  • Run the install CD or from the downloaded Setup.exe file.
