I can not connect to CobraNet devices

Potential Symptoms

  • can not connect to the CobraNet devices
  • RHAON is reporting no CobraNet devices found

Environment

  • LOCOG
  • Nexia Biamps
  • ICONIX
  • CobraNet speakers
  • RHAON software

Resolution

Check to make sure that your laptop or whatever computer you have with the RHAON software is plugged into the Network that the Speakers are plugged into or that you are plugged into the Network jack on the back of the ICONIX speakers.
2. Disable all antivirus software and non-Windows firewalls.

Note: It is preferred to use the Ethernet wired connection versus trying to use it over Wi-Fi because Wi-Fi does not have sufficient bandwidth.

3. Setup a private IP address on the network adapter card (192.168.0.XX)

a. Windows 7 or Vista: Start: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network and Sharing Center\Local Area Connection, click Properties, then select Internet Protocol Version 4, click Properties,

b. Use the following IP Address," enter: IP address: 192.168.0.1 ; Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0; other fields are left blank. (Note, other private IP ranges can be used, see RHAON manual for details.)

c. Windows XP: Start: Settings\Control Panel\Network Connections\Local Area Connection, click Properties. Use  Internet Protocol Version 4.

e. Click "Use the following IP Address," enter: IP address: 192.168.0.1 ; Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0; other fields are left blank.

Note: Private IP ranges can be used, see RHAON manual for details.

4. Inside RHAON go to Options > Preferences in the adapter dropdown and select the correct adapter as configured from above.
5. Select the correct IP range (192.168.0.2 to 192.168.1.100)

6. In RHAON select File > Network Manager and wait for a minute for the list to populate with the CobraNet and RHAON devices

7. If the software fails to find the devices we may have an issue with the Ethernet cable and/or router or it could be possible for something to block the network packets.

8. The work around is to connect directly to the RHAON device using a known good cable.  Many laptops have auto-negotiating NICS and do not require crossover cables if it is an older network adapter a crossover cable might fix the issue.

9. Check the communication lights on the port itself, green indicates there is a link

Work Around

Last known fix is to update the Ethernet adapter card drivers.
