VLink 4000 VLink 4400 VLink 4500: Replacing VIP

Potential Symptoms

Environment

  • Product: VIP-4000, VLink-4000, VLink-4400, VIP-4400, VIP-4500, VLink-4500, DMP-7000
  • Components: Overlay Mode
  • Control System: DMP-7000

Resolution

  •  Backup Configuration - If old unit is present and is able to backup the configuration - If not skip this step:
    1. Click on the "VLink" button on the Venus 7000 Shell and the "VLink" controller will open.
    2. Verify the sign is selected.   If not, click on the drop down arrow and select the sign. 
    3. Select the "Details" button to give you more options for the VLink.
    4. Verify the VLink channel is on "1".
    5. Click on the save configuration button.
    6. A dialog box will appear asking you what you want to call it and where you want to save it.  Save it to the V7000 folder (Default). Name the file with today's date and channel 1 in the file name.
    7. Repeat steps 4-6 for channels 2-4. Make sure to change the channel number in the file name so it will not overwrite the file. It will NOT prompt you if you are overwriting the file.
    8.  Backup Configuration  - If old unit is not able to make a backup configuration file - If not, Skip this step:   
      1. Click on the "VLink" button on the Venus 7000 Shell and the VLink controller will open.
      2. Verify the sign is selected which the VLink is connected to it.  If it is not, use the drop down arrow and select the sign.  
      3. Select the "Details" Button to give you more options for the VLink.
      4. Verify channel "1" is selected.
      5. Record the following configures either with a screen shot or write them down:
        1. Video Signal coming in
        2. Viewable Area
        3. Window Area
        4. Key Color levels
        5. Color Adjustments
      6. Repeat step 5 for channels 2-4
      7. Steps to replace the unit:
        1. Turn off the old VIP, it may take up to two minutes to completely power down.
        2. Label the cables in the back of the unit and disconnect cables connected to the back of the unit.
        3. Remove unit from Rack, if applicable.
        4. If rack is present, mount the new unit in the rack.
        5. Reconnect all the cables to the back of the unit and make sure they are securely connected.
        6. Set up unit with backup configuration file - If not file skip to next step:
          1. Click on "VLink" Button on the Venus 7000 Shell and the VLink controller will open.
          2. Verify the sign is selected which the VLink is connected to.   If it is not, use the drop down arrow and select the sign.
          3. Select the "Details" Button to give you more options for the VLink.
          4. Select "Send Configuration" button, an open dialog box will open.  Select Channel 1 configuration.    NOTE: .vlc should be at the end of the file.
          5. Status message will appear when it is loaded.   Once loaded the screen will appear, wait two minutes after the screen appears and select OK.
          6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for channels 2-4.
          7. Select status and verify the inputs  being used show as locked.
          8. Verify image to the display.
        • Setup unit without backup configuration file:
        1. Click on "VLink" Button on the Venus 7000 Shell and the VLink controller will open.
        2. Verify the sign is selected which the VLink is connected to.   If not, use the drop down arrow and select the sign.
        3. Select the "Details" Button to give you more options for the VLink.
        4. Select the input you want to use. Ex: SDI1.
        5. Set the viewable area to match the video signal coming into the unit.
        6. Setup the window area to match the sign or the window you are playing the video out on.
        7. Setup the key colors. This would only be used if you are using overlay mode. The most common key colors are as follows:
          1. Channel 1 - Green 247
          2. Channel 2 - Red 247
          3. Channel 3 - Blue 247
          4. Channel 4 - Green 128 and Red 128 or Green 128 and Blue 128.
          5. Optional:  You may adjust the color adjustment if the video isn't quite right.  Move the sliders back and forth to make the video look right.
          • Save the VLink Configuration after everything is working and looks good on the display .
            1. Click on Start > Programs > Venus 7000 > Venus 7000 tools > V7 VLink Debugger.
            2. Select the appropriate sign.
            3. Type "GC".  This will allow information to populate.
            4. Enter command "cf s" (Configuration save). This will save the settings you just entered.
