How do I defragment a VIP 4500 or a VIP 4400?

Environment

Product Family: Video Processor
Product: VLink-4400, VIP-4400, VIP-4500, VLink-4500, DMP-7000
Components: defrag
Control System: DMP-7000

Resolution

NOTE: To know if a defragment is required please consult DD2536474.

  1. First, locate the M2 Flash Cleaner.TTL  here.
  2. Download the file to the CPU's desktop.
  3. Stop the V7 Sign Service to stop communication over the VIP's COM port.
  4. Open Tera Term. If the Venus 7000 does not have TeraTerm, click here  to download the installer.
  5. On the Tera Term: New Connection window, click the Serial radio button.
  6. In the Port drop down list, select the appropriate port for the VIP.
  7. After the session window opens, click Setup and select Serial Port.
  8. Set the Serial Port to the following settings:
    1. Baud Rate: 115,200
    2. Data: 8 Bit
    3. Parity: None
    4. Stop: 1 bit
    5. Flow Control: None
  9. Once finished, click OK.
  10. Next click Control and select Macro.
  11. Locate and open the M2 Flash Cleaner.TTL saved on the desktop.
  12. Let the Macro run, which will automatically enter in all commands needed to defrag the VIP 4500.
  13. After starting the macro, wait a minimum of 5 MINUTES for the Macro to complete.  In Teraterm, you should see a 1> when the Macro is complete. This is absolutely necessary to prevent any harm to the VIP, which could then require MAJOR repair to the unit.  Restart the VIP.
  14. Start the V7 Sign Service.
NOTE: You may see a line at the end that says Couldn't set WA1>. This may be due to a window area that is outside the VMax pipe size. If you see FPGA Load Error while defragmenting a VIP 4400, this is due to the 4400 not having an analog card.
