Galaxy, AF 3500, 3550, 3700, How to connect main input power to display
Potential Symptoms
connect main input power to display.
Environment
- Galaxy AF-3500
- Galaxy AF-3550
- GalaxyPro AF-3700: note: AF-3700 displays can have either 120/240 termination panels or term panels specifically designed for 120/208
Resolution
Daktronics recommends that a separate circuit be run to the electronic display(s) to isolate it and prevent any issues that could be caused by line voltage fluctuations or high frequency noise on the power line caused by other types of equipment. A separate circuit also makes display maintenance and troubleshooting easier. Daktronics assumes no liability for any issues caused by line voltage fluctuations or other improper power conditions if these recommendations are not followed.
120 & 120/240 Power
Typically displays uses either a 120 (single "hot" and neutral with ground) or 120/240 power input (two "hot" wires and a single Neutral with a ground wire). The termination can be made inside the display at the power termination panel or externally on an attached J-box.Internal Termination
- One of the "hot" wires is terminated at the top of the bus bar labeled Line 1.
- The other "hot" wire is terminated at the bottom of the bus bar to the left labeled Line 2 (IF used).
- The Neutral wire is terminated at the bottom of the bus bar labeled Neutral.
- Ground wire is terminated to the right of the bus bar on the Ground bar.
Refer to Figure 1.
Figure 1
External Termination.
- One of the "hot" wires is terminated to the Black wire in the J-box.
- The other "hot" wire is terminated to the Red wire in the J-box (IF used).
- The Neutral wire is terminated to the White wire in the J-box.
- The Ground wire is terminated to the Green/Yellow wire in the J-box.
Refer to Figure 2.
Figure 2
120/208 Power
Any display that can use 120/240 V AC, can alternatively use 120/208 V AC (3 hot wires, 1 neutral, 1 ground). However, if the third hot line is not used by the display usually the case, the lines will need to be balanced (i.e. attaching an appropriate load to the 3rd hot line)
AF-3700 with 120/208
GalaxyPro AF-3700 displays are unique in that sometimes they may come with either a 6, 9, 12, and 18 breaker power termination panels specifically designed for 120/208 system being used (any given circuit inside the display only has 120 VAC: that is, none of the equipment inside the display runs off high line voltage - 208 VAC)Internal Termination for Three-Phase Power
- Route the cable (power wires) through conduit to the back of the display. Use one of the knockouts for access, being careful not to damage internal components.
- Connect the neutral wire to the neutral lug and the 3 live wires to lugs labeled A, B, and C (see figures below)
- The ground wire connects to the grounding bus bar
