What generation is my RC-100 base station or handheld?

Potential Symptoms

  • What firmware is on my RC-100 base station or controller?
  • Will my new RC-100 handheld work with my old radio receiver base station?
  • Will my new base station work with my older handheld?
  • I'm replacing my RC-100 handheld. Will the new one work with my current equipment?
  • What function should my RC-100 base station be set to for controlling sports equipment?

Environment

  • Product: Scoreboard
  • Component: RC-100 handheld controller, RC-100 Base Station Receiver
  • Control System: RC-100 handheld controller

Resolution

  1. Determine the firmware version of the RC-100 handheld by looking for the version number on the LCD readout when the handheld is powered on.
    1. Gen I handheld controllers display ED14905 Version 1.6 or lower on the LCD screen at power up.
    2. Gen II handheld controllers display ED14905 Version 2.2 or higher on the LCD screen at power up and/or have a ship date of August 2006 or greater.
  2. Determine the firmware version for the base station by referencing KB article: (How to find Base Station information from RC-100 handheld, DD2223959).
    1. Gen I base stations are labeled ED14906 Version 2.1 or lower.
    2. Gen II base stations are labeled ED14906 Version 2.2 or higher.

Knowing the version information for both the handheld and base station will assist in determining base station and handheld compatibility and what function to set the base station to during installation.

Compatibility

  1. New Handhelds (Gen 2), will work with Gen 1 base stations, which only support function 2 (i.e. Gen 1 base stations do no support a function 5 setting).
  2. When using a Gen 2 handheld with newer Gen 2 base station, the base station should be set to function 5.
  3. Gen 1 handhelds will work with Gen 2 base stations when the base station is set to function 2.
