AF-3500 time on display is drifting ahead over time, display firmware out of date
Potential Symptoms
- Time on display is drifting ahead over time.
- Time on display is the same as the time showing in Venus, both are drifting ahead.
- Scheduled messages are playing outside of the scheduled times
Environment
- Product Family: Message Displays
- Product: AF-3500, AF-3550
- Component: M3 controller based products (firmware version - DD1425608 3.10.2 or lower)
- Control System:
Cause
- Display firmware is out of date and is causing time to drift.
Resolution
- Update firmware on the controller to the latest version available.
- Note for updating Firmware we can follow: How do I update M3 Firmware using the M2Config software utility?, DD3488606 .
- Set Clock Source to Automatic.
Recommended setup after following the above resolution:
- If the setup allows, using NTP is the most accurate way for the display to keep track of time. Follow: How to setup a network time server on a Galaxy display?, DD2208009 for details on the setup.
- Only signs that are on the local network or using a cellular modem, and are able to reach the internet, can use Network Time Protocol (NTP). A sign that connects only to one computer, like a sign using IP 172.16.192.25 and a USB to Ethernet Adapter, cannot use NTP.
