Message Center with Ethernet Bridge Radios, Intermittent, Poor, or Slow Communication to the Sign, High % of Loss when Pinging the Server Radio

Potential Symptoms

  • Intermittent, poor, or slow communication to the sign.
    • Receiving lots of failed ping request timeouts (High % of loss when pinging sign).
    • Packet drop occurring during ping.
Computer directly connected to DC Injector specific symptoms:
  • Local area connection on computer is going back and forth from Enabled to Cable Unplugged.
  • Venus 1500 v4 may have an alert: An error occurred while processing the response, after publishing a schedule/message which indicates the content was corrupted in the process of publishing (due to packet loss).
900 xTR model specific symptoms:
  • Intermittent, poor, or slow communication to the server radio.
    • Receiving lots of failed ping request timeouts when pinging the server radio.
    • High % of loss when pinging the server radio.
    • May be able to detect the server radio occasionally with EBR Diagnostics software but not reliably pull back data.

Cause

  • Cat 5 cable between the network/computer and server radio has failed.  There are 2 Ethernet cables in this system that can have this issue.
    • Cat 5 cable between the network/computer and the DC injector.
    • Cat 5 cable between the DC Injector and Server radio.

Resolution

  • Replace Cat 5 network cable from computer to POE. 
    • Note: Re-termination of the cat 5 cable may also resolve the issue.
