Venus 1500: C++ Runtime Error when launching any part of version 3.12 software
Potential Symptoms
- Updated software to 3.12 and now receiving a C++ Runtime Error when launching any part of the software.
Environment
- Venus 1500 (Any V3 upgraded to 3.12.1 from Dakfiles)
- Configuration
- Windows 7
- M2
- Windows XP
Cause
- Updated software from version 3.X to 3.12.1 from Dakfiles and now the software is receiving C++ Runtime Error. After the update, some how or reason some files had turned to Read-Only.
Resolution

Search https://support.microsoft.com/ for the process.
Step 1:Give Users full rights to Daktronics Folders.
- Go to Windows Start Menu -> Computer or My Computer.
- Browse to the following locations:
- C:\Program Files\
- Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
- Windows Vista - C:\Program Data
- Right-click on the Daktronics folder and choose Properties.
- Choose Security Tab. (if Security Tab is missing follow Missing or no Security Tab found in Windows XP )
- Add Users and give full rights to all users.
- Click Apply and Ok.
Step 2: Give proper rights to HKEY Registry.
- Go to Windows Start Menu -> Run -> Type Regedit -> Ok.
- Go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE -> Software
- Go to HKEY CURRENT USER -> Software
- Right-click on the Daktronics folder, and choose Permissions.
- Give full rights to all users.
- Click Apply and Ok.
- Log in as User and verify the software is working correctly.
Step 3: Make sure Daktronics folders are not set to Read-Only
- Go to Windows Start Menu -> Computer or My Computer.
- Browse to the following locations:
- Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Daktronics
- Windows Vista - C:\Program Data\Daktronics
- Right-click on each file in the Daktronics Folders and choose Properties.
- Make sure the Read-Only is not checked.
- You may need to add Read-Only, Click Apply, Remove Read-Only, click Apply and Ok to take away a ghost setting.
