EBR Radio, interference with utilities meter's frequency
Potential Symptoms
- Frequency interference with the Utility companies; electric, gas, or water meter scanner's.
- Frequency interference with the cell tower on 921 to 928 MHz.
- Interference may occur anywhere within the EBR operating frequency band.
Environment
- Product Family: Message Systems; Transportation
- Product: Galaxy, Galaxy Pro, GS6
- Component: Ethernet Bridge Radios (EBR) 900XTR's
- Control System:
Cause
- Some Utility companies have been switching over to scanned meters that they can just pull from a utility truck. Also newer meters send data out every 2.5 minutes.
- As an example: Some scanners run at a 917.58 MHz frequency and others have been found to operate at 901.625 MHz and need a 5 to 6 MHz buffer to not cause interference per the Utility Company.
Resolution
- Set the Server EBR radio's Channel to a range as not to interfere with channels Utility Company is using. The EBR's range is in between Ch. 1 903.12500 MHz to Ch. 12 926.04167 MHz.
- The locked channel should be well outside of the range of the Utility companies scanner frequency.
- Preferred method: Refer to How to change channel on EBR 900XTR using web utility, DD2502410 to lock channels with web utility.
- Alternate method: Reference the manual Ethernet Bridge Radio (EBR) Pair Manual to lock channels manually with dip switches.
- Most important step after changing channels is to make sure Venus 1500 still connects properly with radios.
- Use EBR diagnostics tool to test RSSI values at new channel settings.
For Temporary Operation
- Install a wired Ethernet communication setup if new channel settings on EBR do not work with Venus 1500 anymore.
- Shutting off power temporarily to EBR's while Utility Company reads the meter does not work. Their meter reads data every 2.5 minutes for newer Advance meters and every hour for older models.
