General instructions on how to configure a VFC-3000 for a GEN II Vanguard display

Potential Symptoms

Configure a VFC-3000 controller for a generation 2 Vanguard display.

Resolution

  1. How to configure a VF20xx 27 x 90-66-A Sign that has firmware above 1.7.2.7
  2. This guide will only give the basics for configuring the controller. 
  3. Flip switch to local mode.
  4. Login into the controller.
  5. Sign Configuration Section.
  6. From the Main Menu.
  7. Select Configuration.
  8. Select System Configuration.
  9. Select Configure Display.
  10. Select Module Type.
  11. Select Monochrome.
  12. Select Gen 4 (24 Volt Bus).
  13. Select 9X5.
  14. Select 66mm (18" Character).
  15. Select Display Type.
  16. Select Full.
  17. Select Pixel Height.
  18. Enter 27 then enter.
  19. Select Pixel Width.
  20. Enter 90 then enter.
  21. Select Display Access.
  22. Select Walk-In.
  23. Press the Cancel button twice to return to the Configuration Screen.
  24. Go to Peripherals Setup Section.
  25. From the Main Menu.
  26. Select Configuration.
  27. Select Peripherals.
  28. Select delete all and auto detect (this should add the temp/light sensors, mini DC I/O's and power supplies).
  29. Add peripherals (DC I/O)
  30. Select DC I/O.
  31. Select DC I/O 1.
  32. Press 2 for switch 5 off.
  33. Press 1 for on distribution board.
  34. Add peripherals screen (Fans).
  35. Select add fans.
  36. Select Intake fans.
  37. Select DC I/O 1.
  38. Press 1 then enter for control pin. 
  39. Select add fans.
  40. Select Front fans.
  41. Select DC I/O 1.
  42. Select 2 then enter for control pin.
  43. Add peripherals screen (RPM sensors).
  44. Select add fan monitoring.
  45. Select fan RPM sensors.
  46. Enter # for how many then enter.
  47. Press Cancel.
  48. Add peripherals screen (Heaters).
  49. Press the down-arrow key.
  50. Select add Heaters.
  51. Select Heaters.
  52. Select DC I/O 1.
  53. Press 3 then enter for control pin.
  54. Add peripherals screen (Parallel Surge Suppressor)
  55. Press the down-arrow key
  56. Select add Surge Suppressor
  57. Select Surge Suppressor
  58. Select DC I/O 1
  59. Press 11 then enter for control pin.
  60. Add peripherals screen (Door Switches)
  61. Press the down-arrow key
  62. Select Door Switch (in traffic cabinet)
  63. Select Door Switch 3 (in sign)
  64. Select Mini DC I/O 1
  65. Press 1 then enter for control pin
  66. Select add Door Switch (in traffic cabinet)
  67. Select Door Switch 4 (in sign)
  68. Select Mini DC I/O 1
  69. Press 2 then enter for control pin
  70. Press the cancel button twice
  71. Select Reset Options.
  72. Select Reset Only.  
  73. The controller will reboot and save the settings.

DO NOT PRESS THE RED RESET BUTTON; this will erase the settings at this point.  The RED RESET is used only when the controller won't respond to key commands.
