Unable to launch Content Studio from .exe, create or edit button and get a "Encountered a problem and needs to close" error

Potential Symptoms

  • Unable to launch Content Studio from .exe, create or edit button and receive an 'Encountered a problem and needs to close' error.
  • When launching Venus 1500 v4 receiving a 'Encountered a problem and needs to close'.
  • No error logs in content studio logs.

Environment

  • Venus 1500 (4.14.2)
  • Galaxy
  • Windows 7

Cause

  • Venus 1500 v4 has two software instances installed.

Resolution

  1. Go to Windows Start Menu -> Control Panel.
  2. Go to Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
  3. Verify there are two instances of Venus 1500 v4 installed.
  4. If there are more then two instance, right-click the Venus 1500 v4 Desktop shortcuts and select Delete.
  5. Verify which instance is the older version in Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features.
    • Windows XP - Click on the Click Here for Support Information to view the version of that instance
    • Windows 7 - The version of the instance select will appear at the bottom of the Programs and Features Window.
  6. Select the oldest version instance of Venus 1500 v4 and click Remove or Uninstall.
  7. Select the newest version of Venus 1500 v4 and click Change or Repair.
    • If XP, choose Repair option and click Next/Continue.
  8. Launch Venus 1500 v4 software and try Content Studio again.
