Galaxy or GalaxyPro display with right half of display face that is blank

Potential Symptoms

  • Right half of display face is blank.

    • On a 2V setup one half of the display face is blank on both faces.

Environment

  • Galaxy, GalaxyPro
  • AF-3400, AF-3500, AF-3550, AF-3700, GPR, GS6
  • Electronic Message Center (EMC) or Board (EMB), Marquee, Readerboard, Display
  • New installs (issue is most common during new install).
  • Power configuration - 120/240 VAC (3 wires + GND)
    • Note: Displays that require 120 VAC to both Line 1 and Line 2.

Cause

  • Line 1 has 120 VAC being supplied to it.
  • Line 2 does not have required 120 VAC being supplied to it.

Resolution

  • Connect 120 VAC to Line 2.
  • There are 2 different setups that may apply.  The below tables depict both setups.
External J Box Setup - Commonly found on smaller matrix displays
  • The External Junction box contains 3 wires plus a ground coming from the interior of the display.  These wires are pre-terminated to the power termination panel inside the display.

  • Line 1 & Line 2 will need to have 120 VAC connected to them for proper operation of the display with a 3 wire + ground setup.

  • Note: May be able to tie the red and black wires together in instances when there are 2 wires + a ground run to the display.  An electrician should be consulted to make sure breaker amperage is sufficient.  The required amperage for the display can be found on the display label.

Terminating Power at the Power Panel - Common setup for larger matrix displays
  • Power Panels may vary in look but should have a label for Line 1, Line 2, Neutral and Ground connections.

  • Line 1 & Line 2 will need to have 120 VAC connected to them for proper operation of the display with a 3 wire + ground setup.

  • Note: May be able to place a jumper between Line 1 and 2 in instances when there are 2 wires + a ground run to the display. An electrician should be consulted to make sure breaker amperage is sufficient.  The required amperage for the display can be found on the display label.
