No communication, loopback fails through fibers; Fiber issue

Potential Symptoms

  • No communication through serial fiber setup but able to communicate at drop down cable.
  • Loopback test passes out of signal converter but fails test through fiber card even if fiber card is replaced.
  • Loopback test fails if fiber runs at display are connected using barrel connector.
  • Light test fails through fiber, may pass light but may appear dim or has high loss.

Cause

  • Bad TX or RX fiber cable run or termination between building and fiber card at display.

Resolution

  • Re-terminate ST fiber ends or replace bad fiber cabling (62.5 micron).
    • If there are multiple fibers in the run that are not in use, may be able to use a different set of fibers.
