No communication with Sunspot 100 display, RS-232 direct communication box

Potential Symptoms

  • No communication with legacy Galaxy display, Sunspot 100, RS232 direct communication box.

Environment

  • Legacy Galaxy, Sunspot 100 display
  • Venus 1500 Ver. 1.7
  • Serial, RS-232
  • get no response back from display in Venus 1500 software
  • power cycled display and get no response
  • power cycled RS-232 box and get no response
  • loopback fails at 232 comm. box

Cause

  • 25 pin - 25 pin cable was hooked into LPT port and not a comm. port.
  • Bad MDC controller.

Resolution

  1. Use a 9 - 25 pin adapter to connect the existing cable to a comm. port, or get a 9 - 25 pin cable to hook directly from the comm. port to the comm. box.
  2. Verify communication with display is restored.
