No communication to display, USB adapter unplugged.

Potential Symptoms

  • No communication to display.
  • USB adapter is not listed in Device Manager.
  • USB is listed as different COM port number in device manager

     Venus 1500 V3 specific symptoms

  • When getting status in Venus 1500, the communication progress window goes away instantly and display turns red.
  • When right clicking on the display in Venus 1500 and going to "View Error Log," the following Error code and Description are given: Error Code -12 - Description "Unable to open communication port."

     Venus 1500 V4 specific symptoms

  • No Response, Connect Failed, or Unable to Connect alert in software.
  • No COM port available. Select a port prompt appears in Display Configuration.

Cause

  • USB to serial adapter unplugged/not connected to computer.
  • USB is connected to wrong/different port on computer

Resolution

  1. Plug USB adapter cable back into the computer.
  2. Check Venus network settings (com port).
  3. Check Device Manager to see what com port assignment was given to the USB adapter. If not the same as Venus network settings, either move USB adapter until it is on correct port or reconfigure Venus.
  4. Re-launch the display software and connect to display.
