When launching Venus 1500 get a error "Nucleus server not running, Nucleus server failed to load" and unable to start the Daktronics Nucleus Server or SQL Server, Error 5 access denied.

Potential Symptoms

  • When launching Venus 1500 get a error:
    • Nucleus server not running, Nucleus server failed to load.
  • When trying to manually start the Daktronics Nucleus Server or SQL Server, receive error:
    • Error 5 access denied.

Cause

  • Logged in User does not have full rights to the appropriate folders. By not having full rights, the services will not start properly.

Resolution

  • Give full rights to Users, Power Users and the Individual User Login to the following folder locations:
  1. Go to Windows Start Menu, go to Computer or My Computer and browse to the Program Files Folder.
  2. Give full rights to both Daktronics and Microsoft SQL Server folders.
  3. Next, browse to the Hidden Folder location:
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
    • Windows Vista, 7 or 8: C:\Program Data
  4. Give full rights to the Daktronics folder.
How to give rights:
  1. Right-click the Folder, choose Properties.
  2. Select Security Tab.
  3. Highlight each Group/User listed and check off full rights.
  4. To add a user click Add and enter in user login name, and click Check Names and click Ok.
  5. Click Apply and Ok.
