Digit and Price Displays: Gas Price display blank, driver status LED off; Failed driver

Potential Symptoms

  • Blank display.
    • Displays before the blank display in the chain work fine.
    • Displays after the blank display will not change price.
    • After a power cycle, displays after the blank display will boot up and show E4 and possibly revert to blinking decimal.
  • Not able to change prices on blank display or those that follow blank driver in the series.
  • Status light on the thin digit driver is not flashing.
  • No boot up sequence occurring on the blank display when power cycled.

Note: Have also seen these above symptoms as intermittent issues.

Cause

  • Failed driver.

Resolution

  • Replace Driver.

For Temporary Operation

  • This work around is for the drivers that are behind the blank driver that have no communication.
  • Depending on the setup, may be able to swap the failed driver with the last driver in the chain. This will get most of the displays communicating again. Here are some things to keep in mind when doing the swap.
    • Make sure the driver being swapped is the same color.
    • Re-address the driver.
