Display has no communication, Fiber Link Off, Bad fiber cable

Potential Symptoms

  • No communication to display through fiber media converters but able to connect at the base of the display.
  • Fiber light test does NOT pass through when testing fiber.
  • Fiber link LED not lit on inside or outside media converters.
  • Fiber cable physically damaged. 

A-2826 Converter symptoms

  • No fiber or Ethernet Link Activity (LNK ACT) lights lit on media converters.
  • Attached devices (computer and display controller) do not have an active Ethernet link light.
  • No fiber Link ACT light lit when performing the fiber run test from the outdoor converter but it will pass when using a patch fiber to test the media converters individually.

A-1778 Converter symptoms

  • No fiber Link light lit on the media converter.

  • Component:  Fiber Ethernet media converters, 62.5 micron Multi-mode Fiber Optic cable
  • Control System:  Venus 1500 v3 or v4, Venus Control Suite, Visiconn

Cause

  • Faulty fiber run.  Either a termination or the run itself has an issue.
    • Damaged fiber due to being cut or from rodent activity.

Resolution

  • Repair the fiber run issue.  Either re-terminate or re-pull the fiber.

For Temporary Operation

  • If spare fiber runs are available, use another existing fiber run.  Be sure to swap both ends of the fiber run into media converters and mark the old fiber as bad somehow (either by note or by snipping ends so it will no longer be used).
