M2, Modem, No communication to display, Not using analog phone system

Potential Symptoms

  • No communication to display.
  • New modem and controller are installed.
  • Quick Connect Ribbon Cable is replaced.
  • Modem can be either external/internal installation.
  • When dialing display the modem will pick up but cannot finish handshake.
  • Handshake does not sound normal.
  • If modem line is disconnected, reconnected, and dialed out to several times communication can be established.

Environment

  • MDC or M2 based
  • Modem

Cause

  • Use of Hybrid Digital/Analog phone system.

Resolution

  • Switch to pure analog phone system or alternative communication method.

Workaround

  1. Disconnect phone line.
  2. Reconnect phone line.
  3. Attempt communication with display.
  4. May need to repeat several times.
