Display Modules: Module won't come out. Tool Spinning, Gear Stripped, Plastic Gears

Potential Symptoms

  • Module won't come out or release. 
  • Module tool spinning.
  • Modules are jammed or stuck. 
  • Modules will not open with allen key. 
  • Tools and hammer will not pry it out the module.

Environment

  • Product Family: Message Sytems, OOH Advertising 
  • Product: Galaxy, GalaxyPro, AF-3400, AF-3500, AF-3700 (Displays shipped prior to 2007 have plastic gears) Billboard: DB-1000 Series
  • Component: Modules using 4 point latch system (Plastic Gears in the modules)
    • Note: Older displays may use a 2 point latch system where this article would no longer apply
  • Control System:

Cause

  • Plastic gears in the module latch system have stripped or plastic latch system is broken. 

Resolution

  1. While putting pressure on the T-handle or 1/8th inch Allen wrench, turn the gear slowly to the left to see if the module will unlatch.
  2. Try wiggling the tool up and down while turning to the left to see if that will unlatch the module.
  3. If you are able to get a module out that is beside the stuck module, you can try to unlatch the stuck module from the rear. It will take a short T-handle or Allen wrench to access the gear from the back of the module.
  4. If the module cannot be removed or surrounding modules cannot be removed for rear access, contact Daktronics Customer Service for support.
