No communication, No link light on USB to Ethernet adapter; Failed D-Link

Potential Symptoms

  • Not able to connect to the display using the USB to Ethernet adapter.
  • USB to Ethernet adapter is showing a status of "Network Cable Unplugged" even though the Cat 5 cable is properly seated at the computer NIC card and at the POE (Power over Ethernet) Injector when EBRs are used
  • Adapter can be disabled and enabled from device manager or network connections with no change - still states that the connection is unplugged.
  • No link light on adapter even after making a connection to a known working Ethernet device.
  • D-Link adapter is physically damaged.

Cause

  • USB to Ethernet adapter is not working properly or damaged.

Resolution

  • Replace USB to Ethernet adapter.

Work Around

  • Use NIC if available on the computer.
