SQL Server 2005 Install, Venus 1500 install, The SQL Server Service failed to start

Potential Symptoms

While SQL Server 2005 is installing as part of Venus 1500 v4.xx, the following error could be seen: SQL Server service cannot be started during installation

Cause

This error will show up when the SQL Server service cannot be started during installation.
 

There are many cases that can cause this issue to show up. Here are three potential causes:

  1. The computer being used does not meet SQL Server 2005 minimum requirements. These requirements can be found here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143680(SQL.90).aspx
  2. NetworkService account cannot be used - The computer configuration may have this account deleted or disabled.
  3. Insufficient permissions to the protect folder. 

Resolution

Depending on the cause listed above there may be three different solutions:
  1. New hardware for the computer may need to be installed in order to start the SQL Server 2005 service.
  2. Try to run the service as the local system account.
    1. Go to Start, Run, type in Services.msc
    2. Locate SQL Server (Nucleus)
    3. Right click and go to properties
    4. Go to the Log On tab, and set from "This Account" to "Local System account"
    5. Start the service
    6. Hit Retry on the SQL error
