Venus Control Suite Data Studio: How do I generate Data Transform expressions using AI?

Use AI-Assisted Data Transforms in Venus Control Suite Data Studio to generate JSONata Data Transform expressions using natural language.

Instead of manually creating transform expressions, users can describe the desired transformation and allow AI to generate a suggested expression.

AI-Assisted Data Transforms can help create expressions for common tasks such as:

  • formatting values
  • changing text case
  • updating IDs
  • restructuring incoming data

 

⚠️ Review and validate all AI-generated expressions before applying them to a data source. AI-generated responses may not always produce the intended result and requests may need to be refined to achieve the desired outcome.

Steps

Access a Data Source and Open Transforms
Before using AI-Assisted Data Transforms, ensure a Data Studio data source has been created.
 
  1. Log in to Venus Control Suite
  2. Navigate to Data Studio

 

  1. Select an existing data source or configure a new data source
  2. Open the Transforms tab.

Open AI Chat
  1. From the Transforms tab, turn on the Enabled toggle if Data Transforms are not already enabled
  2. Review the Transform Expression, Original Feed JSON, and Transform Preview sections
  3. Select the AI Chat iconlocated in the Expression and Preview section

  1. If prompted, review the AI-Assisted Transforms Terms of Use and select Accept
    • The terms of use are only displayed the first time AI-Assisted Data Transforms are used
  2. The AI Chat panel opens and is ready to receive transformation requests
Generate a Data Transform Expression Using AI
  1. In the AI Chat panel, enter a description of the desired transformation in the Message field
    • Examples:
      • Convert stock symbols to lowercase
      • Format timestamps as readable dates
      • Remove specific fields from a data feed
      • Rename a field in incoming data
  2. Select Send
  3. Review the AI-generated JSONata expression
  4. Perform one of the following actions:
    • Select the Accept icon to apply the generated expression
    • Select the Copy icon to copy the generated expression for manual use
  5. Review the generated expression in the Transform Expression section
  6. Compare the transformed output in Transform Preview with the data shown in Original Feed JSON
  7. If the output is not correct, revise the request and generate a new expression
  8. Select Save to apply the transformation to the data source

  • Be as specific as possible when describing the desired transformation. 
  • AI-generated expressions may not always produce the intended result and requests may need to be refined.
  • Always review and validate AI-generated expressions before applying them to a data source.
      Notes and Troubleshooting
      1. AI Responses May Require Refinement
        • AI generates expressions based on the information provided in the request. If a request is too broad or lacks detail, the generated expression may not produce the desired result.
        • Review the request entered into AI Chat and provide more specific instructions.
        • Generate a new expression and compare the transformed output in Transform Preview with the data in Original Feed JSON before saving changes.
      2. AI Chat returns an unsupported request message
        • AI Chat is designed to generate Data Transform expressions from natural-language requests.
        • Requests outside the supported scope may return an unsupported request message. AI-Assisted Data Transforms cannot:
          • Create data sources
          • Modify Venus Control Suite account settings
          • Change passwords
          • Perform unrelated system actions
          • Function as a general-purpose chatbot
      3. AI Chat session history
        • AI Chat retains conversation context during the current session to support refinement of transformation requests.
        • Conversation history may not persist after refreshing the page or ending the session.Token Usage
          • Daktronics monitors AI usage and may display usage information when usage limits are approached.
          • Usage limits and thresholds are managed by Daktronics and may change over time.
      4. AI Chat is not available
        • Verify that:
          • A data source is open.
          • The Transforms tab is selected.
          • Data Transforms are enabled.
          • The Transform Type is set to JSONata Expression.
