Venus Control Suite Scheduling: How to Create a Programmatic File

Topic

Create and configure a Dynamic Playlist File (.dpf) to enable programmatic advertising integration and deliver dynamic ad content from verified third-party vendors using Venus Control Suite.

  • Programmatic advertising is an automated process for buying and selling digital ad space.
  • Venus Control Suite supports integration with VAST (Video Ad Serving Template) compatible programmatic providers.
  • This feature is available only in Venus Control Suite Professional and above.

Environment

Product Family: Venus Professional, Venus Enterprise
Product: Scheduling App (AdGrid, OOH)
Component: Programmatic Scheduling (DPF File)
Control System: Venus Control Suite (VCS) – Cloud Hosted

Steps

1. Open Notepad

  • From the Windows Start Menu or Search Bar, open Notepad.

💡Trainer Tip: Any plain text editor can be used, but Notepad is recommended for simplicity.

2. Add the Programmatic File Lines

  • In the new Notepad file, enter the following two lines:
    • The first line is: src=<enter the URL of the company website to pull from>=daktronics
      • This tells the system where to pull ad content from.
    • The second line is: producer=vast
      • This identifies the producer as a VAST (Video Ad Serving Template) compatible source.

3. Adjust Variables (Optional)

  • You can modify certain parameters to fit your display setup.

    • These parameters ensure the content pulled through programmatic advertising matches your device and display specifications.
    • The Player ID is especially important because it allows the vendor to target the correct device dynamically.

4. Save the File

  • Save the file with a clear, unique name for easy access later.
    • Select File > Save As
    • Choose a name such as: programmatic_vcs.dpf
    • Set Save as type to All Files
    • Ensure the file extension is .dpf

💡Once created, this .dpf file can be uploaded and scheduled through the Scheduling App in Venus Control Suite.
