FL-5000 module's signal In or Out port has failed. Was connected to another FL-5000 module using a FL-3000 line to line cable.

Potential Symptoms

  • Two or more FL-5000 modules have failed signal in or out ports.
  • Testing in a shop before installing new FL-5000 price displays, and an FL-3000 cable was used by mistake.
  • Refacing a structure that previously had FL-3000, and installer reused the existing FL-3000 Line to Line cables instead of running the new FL-5000 Line Cables.

Control System: FLR5-400, Fuelink Direct 2000 (FLD5-2000), Fuelink 5 Controller (FL5) 

Cause

  • The FL-3000 and FL-5000 Line to Line cables have the same physical size and shape molex ends but are pinned differently, and if an FL-3000 cable is plugged into an FL-5000 module the module shorts power and the module signal in port fails. Pictures in KB are looking down from top edge of an FL-5000 module.

 

  • Correct cable in use, green and white should be on top when viewed from above module, and the molex latching mechanism is near black and red:

 

  • Incorrect cable in use, black and red should not be on top when viewed from above module, and green and white should not be nearest the molex latching mechanism:

Resolution

  • Verify no FL-3000 Line to Line cables are in use, then replace the FL-5000 modules that had been connected using FL-3000 Line to Line cables, if their signal ports have failed.
