Venus Control Suite Displays App: Understanding and Using the Security Hub

An overview of the Security Hub and its role in monitoring the security status and public accessibility of display-connected devices. Also includes guidance on how to navigate and utilize Security Hub features to review device security status, identify publicly accessible devices, and access available device information.

Steps

The Security Hub, available in the Venus Control Suite Displays App, identifies display-connected devices that are publicly accessible from the internet. This feature helps customers and Daktronics teams review device security information and take proactive steps to improve device security.

Access the Security Hub

  1. From the Apps Menu, open the Displays App.

  1. Click the Security Hub tab from the left-hand menu.

View Security Summary
  1. Review the Summary section to see the number of Vulnerable, Secure, and Unsupported assets in the account hierarchy.

  1. An asset is displayed as Vulnerable when the Security Hub identifies a security condition on an associated device. A display is considered Publicly Accessible when one or more ports on its connected device are accessible from the public internet.
Understand the Confidence Score 

The Confidence Score is visible in both the Display Security Hub list and the slide-in device details panel. It indicates how likely a detected device is a Daktronics device. 

  

  1. Devices with a Confidence Score of 50 or higher are displayed in the Security Hub.
  2. This score helps users assess the reliability of the detection and prioritize follow-up actions.
Filter Display Results
  1. Use the Search field to find a specific display. Use Sort Order, Account, or Device Types to organize or filter the displayed results.

Review Publicly Accessible Display Details
  1. Select a listed display marked as Publicly Accessible to view scan results and additional information.
     
  2. If the display has more than one associated device, select the applicable device from the Device menu.
  3. Review Scan details which may include:
    • Detected Publicly Accessible Ports
    • Confidence Score
    • Device Type
    • Last Scan Date
    • Next Scheduled Scan
    • Controller Type
    • Product Family
    • Public IP Address
    • Version
  4. Select Display Configuration to review the display’s configuration information.

Key Functionality
  • A summary of display security status, including Vulnerable, Secure, and Unsupported displays
  • A list of publicly accessible displays that can be searched, sorted, or filtered by Account and Device Types
  • Display and device details, including publicly accessible ports, confidence score, controller information, public IP address, and scan dates
  • Access to the selected display’s configuration information
  • A legal footer displaying the Daktronics security disclaimer
Scanning Frequency and General Behaviors
  • All displays and associated devices in the account are scanned weekly to assess their security status.
  • Displays with newly registered devices are scanned within 24 hours.
  • Displays with a public IP address change are scanned within 24 hours.
  • Displays identified as Publicly Accessible are rescanned every 24 hours until the publicly accessible ports are no longer detected.
  • No configuration is required to activate the Security Hub. It is automatically enabled for all users with access to the Displays App.
