How do I Ping an IP Address or Website from an M3 Controller?

  • How can I ping a known IP address or website from an M3 Controller?

Environment

  • Product: AF-3500 & Af-3550 series
  • Component: M3 controller based products w/ GNet firmware
  • Control System: M2Config utility, HyperTerminal, Tera Term, HyperAccess

Steps

  1. Connect to the Controller with M2Config.
  2. Set up an Ethernet debug port on the M3 using M2Config.
  3. At this time, write down the original settings so they can be returned to these values.
  4. On the Communications Tab under Configuration, set up Port 4 for:
    1.  Type: TCP/IP
    2.  Number: 3003 - It is critical that this number be a unique number that isn't being used.
    3.  Protocol: Debug/Raw
      1. Note: It is essential to not change the customer's default TCP/IP Venus 1500 port. This is typically Port 3. Changing this will cause the display to lose Ethernet communication.
  5. Open a HyperTerminal session.
    1.  Host address: Match the IP or DHCP name of the display
    2.  Port number: 3003 or match the number from step 4.b
    3.  Connect Using: TCP/IP (Winsock) (other) IPV4
  6. When terminal connects then hit "Enter" on your keyboard.
    1. Type the following
    2. M3>m3 -d system ping 192.168.0.1
      1. Note: Can substitute any IP address in place of 192.168.0.1
