How to change settings on the SSR-DM2

Environment

  • Product Family:  Audio
  • Product:  Mixer
  • Component:  SSR-DM2
  • Control System:

Steps

  1. Download the DM2App from SSR-DM2 Software
    1. Note there is a firmware file in this location as well that should be used to update the DM2 if its firmware version is unkown.
  2. Unzip the files in the desired location.
    1. All files must be in the same folder
  3. Connect the SSR-DM2 to the computer using a USB Type-C cable
  4. Open the DM2App application
    DM2 Defaults.png

NOTE: If an error pops up when launching the DM2App.exe, a firmware update may be needed. If a firmware update does not fix the error, try the process listed below:

  1. Power off the DM2
  2. Hold both red buttons down
  3. Power the DM2 on while holding them
  4. Release the buttons after they flash 5 times.
  5. Power cycle the DM2 again normally
  6. If the error is still present, try a different USB-C cable.

The following section has a description of what each control does:

Mic In Section: This adjusts settings for the MIC IN jack on the mixer.

  1. Gain:  This adjusts the MIC IN input's input gain or sensitivity in 3dB increments.  The default value for this is 63dB
  2. Compressor:  This puts processing on the Mic input to help prevent loud input peaks from an excited announcer
    1. Threshold is the signal level at which to activate the compressor.  Any signal below this threshold will be unaffected, signal above the threshold will be compressed down to prevent loud peaks from happening.  The default value for this is -10dB
    2. The level of compression can be set to Off, Low, Medium, and Heavy. This setting changes how much signal compressing happens once the threshold has been hit.  The default value for this is Medium.
  3. Equalizer:  This adjusts the tone of the Mic input
    1. 120Hz Low Shelf turns up or down the bass in the mic below 120Hz.  The lower it is set, the less bass will be present in the Mic input.  The default value for this is -3dB
    2. 1.5KHz PEQ turns up or down high mids.  Adjusting this can help with clarity in consonant pronunciation.  The default value for this is 0dB
    3. 8KHz High Shelf turns up or down the highs in the mic above 8KHz.  The default value for this is 0dB
    4. HPF or high pass filter, when turned on or checked, turns down frequencies below the frequency that is set.  The default value for this is 100Hz
  4. Phantom Power:  This provides 24V to the microphone to power a condenser style microphone.  Microphones that Daktronics currently provides do not need phantom power, but it can be turned on for other microphones that do require it.  The default value for this is off.
  5. Ducker Enable:  When checked, the ducker causes music to automatically turn down so the announcer can talk over it.  The music will turn itself back up after the announcer finishes talking. The default value for this is on

Line In Section: This adjusts settings for the LINE IN jack on the mixer.  NOTE: LINE IN only routes to the headphones and is used as a monitor feed for the announcer. The settings in this section work the same as the Mic In section, but have different default values due to the assumption that this feed is coming from a mixer that likely has processing in place already.

  1. Compressor:  The default Threshold is -6dB and the default compression level is Low.
  2. Equalizer:  The default settings are all 0dB.
  3. HPF (High Pass Filter): The default settings are off or unchecked and 50Hz

Lower Half or Music Section:  This section adjusts settings for the Ducker, and music inputs.

  1. Ducker Attenuation:  This sets how far the music is turned down when the announcer speaks and the Ducker is Enabled.  The default value is -40dB
  2. Music in Phones:  This sets whether the Aux In and Bluetooth signals get sent to the headphones or not
  3. Aux In:  This section adjusts settings for the Aux in 3.5 mm jack
    1. Trim adjusts the input level in 1dB increments.  The default value for this is 0dB
    2. The equalizer section works the same as the other sections and the default value is 0dB for all
  4. Bluetooth In:  This section adjusts settings for the Bluetooth input.
    1. Trim adjusts the input level in 1dB increments.  The default value for this is 0dB
    2. The equalizer section works the same as the other sections and the default value is 0dB for all

Line Out Section: This section adjusts settings for the output of the mixer.

  1. Limiter Threshold:  This adjusts the level at which the output limiter activates, limiting the maximum output level.  The default setting is -6dB

Load, Save, and Reset:

  1. The Load button allows a saved configuration to be loaded to the DM2
  2. The Save button allows saving of the configuration.  It is highly recommended that the configuration is saved so that if the settings get adjusted or someone restores it, that the configuration specific to this venue is able to be loaded back to the DM2.
  3. The Restore button allows the DM2 to be restored to the factory default settings.
